Author of the story collection The Observable Characteristics of Organisms (2014 FC2), winner of the 2012 American Short(er) Fiction Award and 2017 Bessie Award Nominee for Outstanding Composition and Sound Design. Ryan has worked in sound, text, video and dramaturgy with choreographers Aretha Aoki, devynn emory, Sara Juli and Vanessa Anspaugh. He has developed a wide variety of animation and media art for artists like Tom Friedman, publishing companies such as Queen's Ferry Press, and theater productions for Bowdoin College. His work has been featured at New York Live Arts, Crossroads Gallery, the Joyce, Judson, Abrons Art Center and more. Ryan has an MFA in Studio Art and an MFA in English from UMASS, Amherst.
